POLICE COMPLAINTS

Police Complaints are often the first stage of bringing a civil claim. We can assist you in holding the police to account for their actions. We usually bring complaints in association with a claim for compensation. In some cases it is  a requirement that a complaint should have been made and processed before legal aid can be applied for.   If you believe you have been mistreated by the police then we can help.

Common complaints include:

  • False arrest
  • False imprisonment
  • Malicious prosecution
  • Stop and search
  • Failure to investigate an offence
  • Harassment
  • Assault
  • Race and sex discrimination

We can deal with all aspects of your complaint from taking a statement to serve on the police, attending on any complaint interview at our office and appealing to the IPCC if necessary.Advice and assistance is available under our Actions Against The Police Legal Aid contract subject to your means. We can also assist in removing personal data such as DNA, fingerprints and photographs which should not have been retained.

If your complaint is successful then it improves your prospects of bringing a claim for compensation for the way you have been treated.  The complaint will often bring out additional information which was not available before the complain was made. A successful complaint also greatly improves your chances of being granted legal aid.
